Hayden Center Youth Dance Classes

The Hayden Center is proud to present our Youth Dance Classes. These 18-week Youth Dance Programs occur each year in the Spring and in the Fall in our newly designed Hayden Center Dance Studio.

Classes are taught by Perry-Mansfield Performing Arts staff and are open to all experience levels, ages 3-18. Don’t miss this opportunity to get your body moving, learn something new and meet new friends who are also interested in the performing arts!

Spring 2024 Youth Dance Classes

Classes Begin Jan. 8, 2024 | Enrollment Ends Jan. 8, 2024

Ballet  1

This Class is for dancers who are new to ballet or for those who only have had one session of Ballet 1. If your child wants to see how the beauty and discipline of ballet feels, this is the perfect class! We explore ballet through a mix of exercises and games that work to introduce basic positions and terminology while keeping it fun and creative. We work to strengthen the ankles, back and core, open flexibility and coordinate the total picture of each step. In a larger sense, we seek to invigorate the child’s knowledge and, hopefully, love of dance, as well as developing a sense of showmanship and presenting themselves.  Students with less than 6 months of training should continue to take this class.

Hip Hop

This style of dance is a vibrant and intense form of dance that combines a variety of freestyle movements. This class is great for young dancers with movement and choreography experience that want to branch out into more challenging movements.  Our classes begin with a community-building warm-up, followed by skill building in large and small groups. Students learn and build on choreography, and class will sometimes end in a hip hop circle improvisation.

Wednesdays  |  4:14 – 5:30 p.m.

Ages: 8+

Instructor: Ebany

Cost: $275

Jazz Fusion (NEW!)

Incorporating elements from jazz, modern, ballet and hip hop, Jazz Fusion delivers a fun and energetic dance experience for all.  However, because of the nature of the style, the elements of the class may change drastically from week to week, or even within the class itself.  Best for those who have had some dance (ballet, jazz, tap, hip hop).  Not recommended for beginners. Students who have had 1 session of Ballet 1 may take this class.

Ages: 8+ (7 with permission of instructor)

Instructor: Ebany

Jazz  2

This level is for dancers who have 1-2 years of experience with jazz and/or ballet.   We will work on flexibility, strength, picking up patterns, rhythm and showing off your unique personality through dance. Our class emphasis is to help each dancer have a technical baseline and to light up their love of dance!  Classes begin with a high-energy warm-up, progress to across-the-floor exercises, and use skills and concepts to master choreography and increase agility, emphasize strength, isolations, syncopated rhythms, and precision.

Mondays  |  4:15 – 5:30 p.m.

Ages: 10+

Instructor: Ebany

Cost: $225

Tap

Tap is a really fun class designed for dancers who have little to no experience in the genre. We will start teach them more advanced vocabulary and help them advance their sense of rhythm and style! Students will begin by learning classic Broadway style tap. Exercises focus on building stability of the knees and ankles, developing coordination and showmanship! Our class emphasis is on developing a baseline of proper tap technique, producing clear tap sounds, and having a ton of fun!

Fridays  |  11:00 a.m. – 12:00 p.m.

Ages: 8+ (will consider younger ages if they have previous tap experience)

Instructor: Ebany

Cost: $225

Hayden Center Performance Ensemble

The Hayden Center Performance Ensemble will work in a multitude of styles but mainly focusing on Jazz, hip hop, contemporary modern and improvisation along with an emphasis on gaining stronger technique. One of the goals of this class is to work towards integrating this group into the community by performing at community events along with other performance opportunities throughout the year. The Hayden Center Performance Ensemble aims to create a new branch in the family tree of this community; giving young artists a space to explore and create with likeminded people, nourishing their minds and abilities outside of the classroom.   This class will need a lot of commitment and is open to anyone willing to make that commitment and work hard.

Fridays  |  12:00 – 1:30 p.m.

Ages: 12+ (will consider younger ages with instructor permission)

Instructor: Ebany

Cost: $275
