TOWN PROJECTS

As Hayden continues to grow, the Town leadership is working hard to ensure that we grow wisely, improve our quality of life, and protect the beauty that surrounds us.   Below are Key Projects that are ongoing.  As always, we welcome feedback from our neighbors on all of these, so please reach out to the Project Lead with any/all of your questions.

PUBLIC WORKS

HOSPITAL HILL WATER TANK RENOVATION PROJECT

OVERVIEW

Minor repair needs were identified during routine inspections of the Hospital Hill Water Storage Tank. No major tank deficiencies were identified during inspections; however, areas of excessive corrosion have been identified. Epoxy has been used to repair sidewall leaks and pitting along the interior surfaces. Since being placed online in 1978 the Hospital Hill tank has become the heart the water distribution system. With the water distribution systems dependency, the Hospital Hill tank has never been taken offline. Recent construction of the 0.5 MG Seneca Hill tank in 2014 has created an opportunity to take the Hospital Hill tank offline to perform much needed maintenance. This project will repair the deficiencies identified in the tank inspections and other improvements, listed below:

  • Drain and inspect the tank for any additional repair needs.
  • Recoat of the interior metal surfaces of the tank to remediate minor corrosion issues.
  • Add a cathodic protection system to increase the service life of the steel tank.
  • Add instrumentation and controls to the water plant and Hospital Hill site for future operation without the Hospital Hill tank.

In order to take the Hospital Hill Tank offline, a temporary 10,000 Gallon pressurized tank is currently installed in its place and testing of the water system is taking place now. Construction crews will begin work in early June.

PROJECT UPDATES

Highway 40 Multimodal Safety Improvement Project

OVERVIEW

The Town of Hayden was recently awarded $1,000,000 from the Colorado Department of Transportation! These new funds will join $1,300,000 previously attained through other grants to build sidewalks in select locations on Main Street/Highway 40.

Along the highway’s length where sidewalks are missing it’s very dangerous to traverse if you are walking or biking. The shoulders are mostly flat and are right next to the main vehicle travel lanes making it uncomfortable, unaccessible, and unsafe. The issue is exacerbated in the winter when snow berms push pedestrians and bikers further into the traffic lanes. To improve the situation Hayden started working on a multi-modal transportation assessment and sidewalks along Highway 40 were identified as a safety issue, as well as, the solution to improving non-motorized access to the central business district, school bus stops, and regional transportation hubs along Hwy 40. The above highlights why this project is so important; we will be improving everyone’s ability to successfully traverse Hwy 40 in Hayden, creating a safe multi-modal traffic environment, and open up Hayden’s downtown which will improve our downtown economic viability.

AFFORDABLE HOUSING/ ATTAINABLE HOUSING POLICY PROJECT

OVErVIEW

Housing and building costs continue to rise and the Town is continuing to work on several ideas to support affordable and attainable housing. Currently the Town is in the process of completing a 100% grant-funded Housing Needs Assessment and Action Plan that will guide recommended housing strategies. We encourage every neighbor to join Town Council meetings to share ideas and ensure we are truly hearing all voices on this important topic.

PROJECT UPDATES

Hayden Center

OVERVIEW

Town of Hayden residents voted for a bond to complete the construction of the Hayden Center which offers a variety of recreation and arts programs and is home to Totally Kids and Totally Tots childcare programs. These programs will continue to expand and new programs will be offered as construction is completed and partnerships are built with community partners.

We are finalizing Phase 1 of construction at the Hayden Center and will begin the second and final phase of construction in January of 2023. This final phase of construction includes updates to the arts wing including the auditorium, the exterior of the building, and community spaces throughout the building.

We are super excited to finish up this project – and it’s all been made possible because the Town voted to take a risk for everyone’s benefit; thank you Town of Hayden!
