TOWN PROJECTS

As Hayden continues to grow, the Town leadership is working hard to ensure that we grow wisely, improve our quality of life, and protect the beauty that surrounds us.   Below are Key Projects that are ongoing.  As always, we welcome feedback from our neighbors on all of these, so please reach out to the Project Lead with any/all of your questions.

PUBLIC WORKS

Hayden U.S Highway 40 Sidewalk Project

OVERVIEW

Along the highway’s length where sidewalks are missing it’s very dangerous to traverse if you are walking or biking. The shoulders are mostly flat and are right next to the main vehicle travel lanes making it uncomfortable, unaccessible, and unsafe. The issue is exacerbated in the winter when snow berms push pedestrians and bikers further into the traffic lanes. To improve the situation Hayden started working on a multi-modal transportation assessment and sidewalks along Highway 40 were identified as a safety issue, as well as, the solution to improving non-motorized access to the central business district, school bus stops, and regional transportation hubs along Hwy 40. The above highlights why this project is so important; we will be improving everyone’s ability to successfully traverse Hwy 40 in Hayden, creating a safe multi-modal traffic environment, and open up Hayden’s downtown which will improve our downtown economic viability.

PROJECT UPDATES

Poplar Street Bridge

OVERVIEW

The Poplar Street bridge is a piece of local and regional critical infrastructure in dire need of repair. In 2020, significant corrosion in the bridge decking led to structural failure, allowing potholes to develop as asphalt fell through the bridge into Dry Creek. Subsequently, the town was able to perform an interim emergency repair of the decking, which has allowed the bridge to regain its stability for the short term. In addition to repairing the bridge structure, improvements will be made to the pedestrian crossing, which abruptly stops half way across the bridge.

Hayden Center

The Town of Hayden has been diligently working on the redevelopment of the old Hayden High School to become the Hayden Center.

OVERVIEW

Town of Hayden residents voted for a bond to complete the construction of the Hayden Center which offers a variety of recreation and arts programs and is home to Totally Kids and Totally Tots childcare programs. These programs will continue to expand and new programs will be offered as construction is completed and partnerships are built with community partners.

We are finalizing Phase 1 of construction at the Hayden Center and will begin the second and final phase of construction in January of 2023. This final phase of construction includes updates to the arts wing including the auditorium, the exterior of the building, and community spaces throughout the building.

We are super excited to finish up this project – and it’s all been made possible because the Town voted to take a risk for everyone’s benefit; thank you Town of Hayden!
