Business Spotlight – Birthroot Midwifery

Business Spotlight: Birthroot Midwifery

Hayden is home to many passionate small businesses that make our community thrive, and one of our newest additions is Birthroot Midwifery, owned and operated by Astrid Grove, CPM, RM a community midwife, Maya abdominal therapist, and herbalist with over 20 years of experience supporting women and families on their health journeys.

Astrid and her family made the move to the Yampa Valley in 2020 from Colorado’s Front Range, drawn by a love for the land, a desire for rural living, and family-centered values that reflect the heart of Hayden. As Astrid shared, “I am also a wife, a mother of two young daughters (both born at home with midwives), an avid medicine maker, a gardener, and a keeper of chickens, goats, and turkeys.”

After several years of serving families in Steamboat Springs, Astrid recently moved Birthroot Midwifery to its new home right in the heart of Hayden at 125 S. Walnut Street. The move not only brought her closer to home but also opened new opportunities to connect more personally with the community. She’s found joy in the open-door atmosphere of her new location, often greeting curious passersby who stop in to learn more about what she offers.

Astrid’s services extend well beyond Hayden; she travels from Steamboat all the way to Baggs, conducting home visits before and after birth. She provides a wide range of offerings including homebirth midwifery, prenatal consultations, postpartum care, placenta medicine, Maya abdominal therapy, herbal medicine, and internal pelvic work. Her care is rooted in compassion, education, and empowerment, helping families experience birth as a natural, meaningful, and supported journey.

Each Tuesday from 11:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m., Astrid hosts a free “Mothers Circle” at her Walnut Street office, an open gathering for women who are trying to conceive, are currently pregnant, or have recently welcomed a baby. Mothers, babies, and toddlers are all welcome to join for conversation, shared wisdom, and a cup of tea. These gatherings have become a nurturing space for connection, support, and learning, embodying Astrid’s belief that motherhood thrives in community.

With a B.A. in Eastern Medicine and Philosophy from UMass Amherst, a Certified Professional Midwife and Registered Midwife designation through Birthwise Midwifery School, and advanced training in Maya Abdominal Therapy and herbal medicine, Astrid brings both deep expertise and heartfelt care to every family she serves.

Please help us welcome Astrid Grove and Birthroot Midwifery to Hayden! You can learn more by visiting her website at www.astridgrove.com or by stopping in to say hello at her office on Walnut Street. You can also support her by spreading the word about her services, or by inviting new mothers to join the Mothers Circle.
