Business Spotlight: Hayden Taphouse

The Hayden Taphouse wasn’t even a twinkle in Derek and Anna Martin’s eyes when they learned that the former brewery was closing and the space would be available. They saw this as an opportunity to open something unique in Hayden and it only made sense since they own and operate the Alpenglow Wine Bar, a staple in the community since 2023. Derek and Anna decided that they wanted to create a community space where everyone can enjoy each other’s company. Their design of the taphouse is a complement of this, featuring a family style table that can seat multiple people to the arcade games throughout. They wanted to ensure that there is “something for everyone” and do so by serving beer, bourbon, wine, cocktails and non-alcoholic beverages. 

Derek and Anna’s journey to Hayden began when they were living in Missouri. Derek was involved in his family run winery, Martin Brothers Winery, and Anna was working as a turbine engineer in the energy industry. Neither had lived in Colorado previously, but visited several times and knew that they wanted to find a place similar to where they were living, a small town with a vibrant community. Anna’s job opportunity with Craig Station led to the Martin’s move to the area.  Anna now works as a machinery diagnostic services engineer.  After multiple trips, which included eight U-Hauls and two semis, they moved themselves and their wine making equipment to Colorado.  Derek’s experience in the beverage business and Anna’s creativity have played a pivotal role in their business ventures.

On March 7, 2025 the Hayden Taphouse opened its doors. The taphouse offers 32 taps, which include an assortment of beer, wine and cocktails. The tap selection features a substantial amount of Colorado beers, with an emphasis on providing variety and uniqueness. You will even find gluten free and non-alcoholic options. The taphouse spotlights an iconic spirit, Bourbon. They have an eclectic assortment that includes Colorado bourbons, Kentucky staples as well as Japanese and Irish bourbons. 

The Hayden Taphouse, located at 200 N Walnut St in Hayden, CO is open Tuesday-Thursday 4pm-10pm as well as Friday and Saturday 12pm-10pm. You can expect to see Justin and Taylor serving up drinks, so stop by and experience the “welcome spirit” of the taphouse!
