The reason we want to have these requirements is because as we build and grow this program we want the dancers to have something to work for, and something to strive for that is clear for both dancer and parent. We want to be transparent and clear about how we hope the kids are able to excel in the program and that means creating a tangible set of standards that we can all check in with that will set a bar as kids grow and shift in their classes at the Hayden center.
Perry-Mansfield’s Mission is to provide young people superior arts training in body, heart, and mind and to promote creativity, a sense of the close association of the arts, and the values of a way of life close to nature. So these “standards” are to help the students find organized physical growth as we also explore and dive into the hearts and minds aspects of the arts in every class.
Students experience the fundamental components of a ballet class—barre and center work—and learn characteristics essential to success in ballet.
Respect for teachers and classmates, self control, persistence and patience.
